Windows Language Opportunity

Windows of opportunity is period when the brain needs a stimulation to create or stabilize structure for a long time. Windows of opportunity is opened in the childhood since two months old. At eighteen until twenty months old the language  opportunity will grow faster. Baby can dominate ten words a day, it means baby can dominate three thousand words at five years old. For example, a couple went to England for a job. They had s baby there. 15 years later, their child was fluenter in English than his parents.

Child’s language opportunity is influenced by his parents. Child has more treasury words, if his parent often speak with them.  Many researchs uncover that, the child who often speaks with his parent will be smarter and more active than who seldom.

Brain’s language ability is opened at two months old and grow until die. But, some language component is closed earlier. Windows speaking language phase is closed at ten or eleven years old.

For example, someone in “closet kids” story . In 1970, in California, a fifty years old mother ran away from her house after squabble with her husband, seventy years old. She brought her daughter , thirteen yers old. They came to official prosperous social  and ask for help. But the official saw strange in the girl(the daughter). Her behaviour  was abnormal. Her body is humped, thin, dry as bone, dirty, and sadden. She always spits. She never speaks. The official thought that the girl was oppressied by her mother. Then her parents to the courts. In the court the girl’s father kill himself by revolver. He left a note,”The world never understand”.

May be that is could true. The world wil never understand, how could a father hate his child. Research uncovered that  Genie, it was the girls’s nickname. She passed her childhood in her father  destruction. Since the childhood, her father bounded her on a tight chair. Every day she can’t move her hands and her feet. In the night, she stood in a place like an iron prison. She often felt hungry . When she cried, her father strike her. Her father never said anything. Her mother and her brother couldn’t do anything because they afraid with the father. Her mother and her brother just spoke in wishper . Genie never heard a word.

In the hospital, after the court , Genie never said anything. She just dumped. Her intelligence  likes a year old child.

From this story, we know that Genie’s language opportunity  is lost. Because, in her windows speaking language phase, she never hear a word that can stimulates her brain. It is happen in our country’s studies. Studies of foreign language is beginning in high school, when the windows of opportunity language is closed. 

Whereas, if we can speak with foreign language, what lucky we are. We will know the world very easy. Especially, in this globalitation era.  Export and import can’t be avoided.  And the effect from it, many equipment use foreign language.

But, don’t worry. If we want to repair our speaking language ability, it is not too late. Dr. Marian C. Diamond said”Nothing come late to study”. It can beginning by teach foreign language since childhood, and always give stimulation to the b rain grow.

If we can dominate foreigns language, the world will be holden in our hand easily.
